Kingston A1000 480GB M.2 NVMe PCIe SSD Review

Performance

Performance has been tested on the Ryzen Threadripper platform which contains the 1920X, 12 core processor and ASRock X399M Taichi motherboard. Used operating system was Windows 10 Pro x64. I guess that performance on Intel controllers would be a bit higher but AMD Ryzen is really popular in last months so let’s take a look at the results on AMD platform.

对于480GB版本的A1000 SSD,金士顿声明最大带宽为1500MB / s读取和900MB / s的写入。

ATTO Disk Benchmark is showing us results clearly better than the declared bandwidth. Maximum read is going up to 1632MB/s while maximum write up to 1027MB/s. It’s more than we were expecting. Results are also pretty consistent. It’s nearly maximum which we can achieve on the x2 PCIe lanes.

Now let’s take a look at the CrystalDiskMark results.

Results in CrystalDiskMark are similar to what we’ve seen in ATTO. Maximum sequential read bandwidth is above 1600MB/s and write is above 1000MB/s. Random performance is even more important and here results are also good. Maybe not as good as these of top NVMe SSD but better than what we can expect of SATA SSD. 4KiB Q1T1 read is above 37MB/s so about as high as that of most popular higher PCIe SSD series. Top drives except maybe Intel Optane have about 45-50MB/s so considering this is entry-level SSD then results are not bad.

One more benchmark – PCMark 8. I wonder when Futuremark, or I should say UL as they’re brand owner right now, will release new storage benchmark. The PCMark 10 doesn’t have separated storage tests so we have to use older version which is still great for storage tests.

Let’s take a look at the results.

PCMark正在对流行应用进行测试,所以显示真实的工作负载。我们的结果再次良好,考虑到这不是最高系列的SSD。实际上它是我们在这款基准中获得的最佳结果之一。

The A1000 performs better in all tests than we can read in general specification but I guess that no one will complain at additional performance. For sure it’s interesting SSD and is worth recommendation.
